FENSAP-Turbo: Icing in Multistage Jet Engines

NTI introduces FENSAP-Turbo, a fully-integrated module of FENSAP-ICE that models ice accretion at engine face (Fan and IGV) and within any number of successive compressor stages.

FENSAP-Turbo models water droplets and/or ice crystals trajectories to pinpoint impingement zones and outline ice shapes in several interacting jet engine stages.

Being 3-D, fully-viscous, compressible, turbulent and multistage, FENSAP-turbo matches industry’s current gas turbine aerodynamics tools, allowing aero and in-flight icing to be dealt with in a concurrent engineering fashion, rather than in succession.

FENSAP-ICE’s versatility and realism allows ice protection designers to venture beyond the limits of the certification regulations, intended to be minimum guidelines, and explore some of the most recent problems such as ice crystals ingestion and engine rollbacks/shutdowns at high altitudes.

It is also a viable companion technology to testing, and an able receptacle of experimentally-based correlations.
